Established in 1913 the troop met in the Hurstbridge Hall, a shed next to Taylor’s store in the main street. This is now the site of the IGA supermarket and bottle shop.

In the early 1980’s, following the State Schools move to Fergusons Paddock, the Group Committee worked with the Eltham Shire to secure the two original primary School buildings in Anzac Avenue for use as a Scout hall.  After five years of preparation (by about 60 scouts’ families) the Scouts moved into the refurbished old school buildings in 1986.

Dr W G Wells, Chief Commissioner of Victoria officially opened the Scout Hall on Sunday, April 12 1987.

The secretary of the Hurstbridge Scouts, Mrs Cheryl Paine, said “the new premises were a tribute to the work of the Group Leader, Mr Keith McKenzie. He was the driving force behind it all."

The 1st Hurstbridge Scouts still meet every week in this same hall, maintaining a strong link to its past and looking forward to an exciting future.
